Basic bank accounts

Banks are required to provide a basic bank account to everybody as a requirement that is suggested by the government.

Banks will not advertise this, so you will have to ask them for a basic bank account.

A basic account is a free account. It will enable you to do your regular banking such as shopping in stores and online, pay bills, have your wages paid into and set up direct debits. You can only spend the money you have in your account. You will not get any overdraft facility.
