1. Barnsley
Overview
Barnsley is situated in South Yorkshire and is a large town that is close to Manchester and Leeds. There are deprived neighbourhoods there like lots of towns in the UK, however, Barnsley has many good neighbourhoods as well. Manchester and Leeds are more affluent areas but Barnsley is still a good place to live and work.

2. County Durham
Overview
Bordering a number of counties including North Yorkshire and Northumberland, Country Durham is a picturesque location to live and work. If you are looking for the cheapest places to live in the UK, then Country Durham is certainly that.
However, there is a drawback, it could be hard to find work. However, having said that, the area is now attracting businesses and investments and going through an economic regeneration.
