Monzo Flex Review: buy now pay later credit card

Here we do a quick review of the Monzo Flex Credit Card. The buy now pay later credit card with a difference.

Monzo Flex is a buy now and pay later credit card. This means you can make a purchase now and pay for it later.

Monzo is an app based bank that was set up in the UK to provide an alternative form of banking for people in the UK. It was formed in 2017.

Even though Monzo is an app based bank, it is a proper bank that is FSCS protected.

How does Monzo work?

With Monzo Flex, you are able to make a purchase and pay for it in 3 monthly payments without having to pay any interest. Essentially, it provides a facility to buy now and pay later.

However, there is a difference between Monzo Flex and some buy now and pay later providers. With Monzo Flex you are not restricted to certain stores or places where you can shop. You are able to shop at any physical stores or online.

If you are unable to pay for your purchase within 3 months or would like longer to pay, then you have the chance to pay for your purchase with 6 and 12 monthly payments at 29% APR representative (Variable).

Is your purchase protected?

Purchases that are made with Monzo Flex (if eligible), are protected. Items purchased with your virtual card has the Section 75 protection as with a regular credit card, on eligible items.

Award winning credit card

The Monzo Credit Card was awarded ‘credit card of the year 2023’.

It also has no hidden fees and has a credit limit of up to £3,000, as quoted on the Monzo website.

Flexibility payments

When you purchase with Monzo Flex, you can either pay from the go. Or if you have made any purchases from your Monzo Current account, you can transfer that to the Monzo Flex with a simple click. However, this has to be done within 2 weeks.

This means if you have bought an item using your Monzo Current Account and you would like longer to pay for it, you can move the purchase to Monzo Flex.

If you don’t make a payment, Monzo does not charge you. Monzo Flex will give you up to 7 days to make your payment. If you still have not made a payment, then if you were on a 3 months or a 6 months payment, it will move you to 12 months payment.

You also have the freedom to pay your amount quicker or pay extra so you can save yourself paying some interest.

Use abroad with no extra fees

With the Monzo Flex Card, you can use it abroad in any currency as well as the UK. It is also fee-free, so Monzo does not add any mark-ups on the Mastercard’s exchange rate.

This could be much cheaper than exchanging your pounds to the local currency where you could pay additional charges.

Non payments

If you do not make payments to any purchases you have made with the Monzo Flex Card, it could affect your credit rating. .

Any unpaid debt could also be moved over to a debt collecting company.

Comment

The Monzo Flex Card provides you with the facility to buy now and pay later. It is different from some buy now and pay later providers as you are not restricted to certain stores where you can purchase items from.

Monzo Flex gives you the facility to buy now and pay later. You can shop in any physical store or online unlike some buy now and pay later providers.

In addition, you can use your Flex Card abroad without any additional mark-up on the Mastercard exchange rate being made by Monzo.
