Should you switch energy supplier

Energy prices have become even more expensive so finding cheaper suppliers and tariffs will save you money. On average a household can save up to £200 or more by switching energy suppliers.

This is even more so for households that are on Standard tariff for their energy.

If your contract with an energy supplier has ended, you will most likely be put on the Standard tariff by your energy supplier. Hence, you will not be getting a good deal and be paying more per unit of energy.

This is the time to look for a better deal in order to save money.

What is the standard tariff?

The Standard tariff is the least value energy price that you could be on. With the Standard tariff you are not getting the best deal for your money.

Your unit of energy will cost more when you are on the standard tariff. If you were on a contract with your energy supplier and you contract has finished, your energy supplier will most likely move you over to their standard tariff.

Energy through a payment meter

If you are getting your energy by a payment meter, you are getting the worst value for your energy. Therefore, if you want to save money on your energy bills, you should get off it. If you want to, you can ask your supplier to take you off your payment meter.

If you owe money to your energy supplier, and you are paying that back through your payment meter, then they might not take you off it. You can ask them, to take you off, after you have paid back the money you owe them.

Do I need to switch supplier to save money on my energy bill?

Sometimes, you might get a good deal from the supplier you are with by asking them for a better deal. Don’t forget they will not want you to move to another supplier if they can avoid it.
